Philippines-based Wild Rift squad Team Secret bowed out of the Horizon Cup 2021 after losing to China's Da Kun Gaming (DKG), 3-1, in the best-of-five semifinals held in Singapore on November 20.
DKG showed a dominant play in Game 1 as they outplayed Team Secret on every lane. As a result, they ended the first game under 18 minutes with 21k gold lead, 3 dragons secured, intact towers, and a 20-3 kill advantage against Team Secret.
Both teams gave their best performance in Game 2. Though DKG led the early game, Team Secret were able to make a resurgence after Heri "Tatsurii" Garcia's Zed scored a triple kill at the 11-minute mark of the game. The Filipino squad notched the second game with a 26-12 kill lead at the 19-minute mark to tie up the series 1-1.
The Chinese squad dominated Game 3 with 9 kills against 1 of Team Secret in under 15 minutes. An ace during the Baron fight made DKG take advantage of the game and lead the series, 2-1, heading to match point.
Game 4 saw China's DKG stopping Team Secret's hope for a decider game, as they outperformed the SEA representatives in the team clash at the 15-minute mark, resulting in an ace and ultimately eliminating Team Secret in the inaugural international tournament.
With their victory, DKG earned the first slot in the Grand Finals. They will be facing fellow Chinese team ThunderTalk Gaming on November 21.
Meanwhile, Team Secret exited the Horizon Cup in 3rd-4th place with USD 60,000 in consolation.
To recall, Team Secret earned a spot for the Horizon Cup by reaching the SEA Championships finals, where they were defeated 4-1 by Vietnam's SBTC Esports.
They exacted revenge on SBTC in the playoffs after sweeping the Vietnamese team and claiming their first victory over their SEA rivals.
