MPLI 2021 Grand Finals: ID's Onic defeat PH's Blacklist International, 3-1
Indonesia's Onic Esports defeated the Philippines' Blacklist International, 3-1, to claim the championship of the One Esports Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Invitational (MPLI) in the grand finals on November 7, 2021.
Both Onic ID and Blacklist International were directly invited to the tournament's quarterfinals as the recent champions of MPL Indonesia and MPL Philippines, respectively.
Blacklist began Game 1 of the finals on a high note, dominating Onic ID in a 14-minute game that ended with a 12-5 kill advantage for the reigning two-time MPL Philippines champion. Blacklist's star mid laner, Johnmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna, paced his squad's sizzling start with the signature "UBE" strategy.
Both squads equally showed their best performance in Game 2. However, Onic ID took the second game, thanks to Sanz "S A N Z" Gilang's Yi Sun Shin leading the team fight in the 11-minute mark, scoring a triple kill. Onic ID finished the game in under 15 minutes, making the series tied 1-1.
Indonesian squad Onic ID carried their momentum in Game 3, as S A N Z's Yi Sun Shin shined and scored 5-0-5 KDA. They ended the third game with a 13-6 kill lead at the 12-minute mark to take a 2-1 lead.
Game 4 saw Onic ID not giving Blacklist International a chance for a decider game, as they successfully blocked the Filipino squad's forced mid turret push at the 16-minute mark. Onic ID ultimately ended the game at the 17-minute mark with a 23-15 kill score, securing a 3-1 victory in the best-of-5 grand finals of the MPLI 2021.
With their victory, Onic ID took home the largest's share of the competition's USD 100,000 prize pool.
Onic Sanz earned the MVP awards for games two and three, while rookie Calvin "CW" Winata on Chou received the MVP nod in game four.
On the other hand, top Mobile Legends teams are preparing for the upcoming M3 World Championship, featuring 16 of the best teams worldwide vying for their share of a USD 800,000 prize pool and the title of MLBB world champions.
