Team Secret's campaign at Valorant Champions 2021 has come to an end after losing to Europe's Acend in a 2-0 sweep in the Playoff quarterfinals on December 9.
With their defeat, Pinoy Valorant squad Team Secret bowed out into the biggest Valorant tournament in the world in 5th-8th places and with USD 40,000 (around PHP 2 million) in consolation.
The European squad delivered a strong start in the quarterfinals against Team Secret, opening the first half of Game 1 on the Icebox map with a 5-0 round lead before carrying an 8-4 score into halftime.
The Filipino hopefuls attempted to bounce back after the side switch, but eventually, Acend won the match with a 13-8 score.
Game 2 saw Acend with the same gameplay as they started with a strong 5-0 run before closing the first half with an 8-4 round lead.
European team Acend ultimately secured a semifinals slot in the Breeze map with a 13-6 victory.
Before entering the playoffs, Team Secret has experienced roller-coaster matches. In their first bout against Gambit Esports, though losing the last two games, they took the first game in the Icebox map that stunned the VCT Masters Berlin champions.
Their next matches are against Japan's Crazy Raccoon and Brazil's Team Vikings, which they both won and eventually gave them a spot for the playoffs.
To recall, Team Secret, an esports organization based in Europe, has acquired the former Bren Esports roster, which left the squad after failing to participate in VCT Masters Berlin due to visa issues. Subsequently, following Paper Rex's early exit from VCT Masters Berlin, Team Secret emerged as the qualifying team, having won VCT Challengers SEA while still affiliated with Bren Esports.
