Google to halt election ads for 2022 Philippine polls
Google Philippines has announced that it will not accept election advertisements during the 2022 campaign and silence periods, from February 8 to May 9, 2022.
This policy applies to election advertisements purchased through Google Ads, Display and Video 360, and Shopping platforms, and intended for placement on Google, YouTube, and partner properties.
This includes ads that support or oppose the candidacy of any political party or individual for public office.
Google said it would send notifications to affected advertisers about the policy update.
Moreover, the US-based tech giant said it is planning election-related initiatives to help people find accurate information and encourage voter participation, among other things.
Google stated that its election support efforts began earlier this year with the COMELEC's #MagpaRehistroKa campaign, among others.
The voter registration campaign website is hosted on Google Cloud, a suite of public cloud computing services.
Additionally, Google launched a magazine called #YOUThink in English and Cebuano languages to bolster its anti-misinformation efforts.
