Smart Communications-led Omega Esports has been banned from competing in all Valve-sponsored events due to match-fixing allegations, Dota 2 SEA DPC League organizer Beyond the Summit announced in a tweet on Tuesday (November 23, 2021).
According to SEA DPC League, "Team Smart Omega (aka Omega Esports) have been officially banned from all Valve-sponsored events due to their engagement in match-fixing activities."
The ban is effective immediately and extends to its former and current players, including:
- Dave "Hiro" Miyata
- Prince "Prince" Daculan
- Patt Piolo "Piolz" Dela Cruz
- Ryniel Keit "Zenki" Calvez
- Van "Van" Jerico Manalaysay
- Coach Chris Ian Francis "CTY" Maldo
As a result, the Philippines-based Dota 2 squad lost their slot in Division I of the SEA DPC Tour 1, slated for December 1. Indonesian team BOOM Esports will fill Smart Omega's slot. Moreover, the slot vacated by BOOM Esports will be filled via an additional closed qualifier held on November 26.
Meanwhile, Team Execration, who recently recruited Van to be its new offlaner, will be allowed to fill in its open player spot and continue competing in the upcoming season.
Recent Omega recruits, namely Lee "Forev" Sang-don, Ramzi "Ramz" Bayhaki, and Liew "Eren" Jun Jie, were not involved.
There were no additional details provided in support of the allegations.
In a statement released on November 24, Omega Esports said that they have not yet received an official copy of the decision from the league organizers regarding the matter and added that they don't condone any type of cheating in their organization.
"We do not condone any form of cheating or game fixing in our organization," said Omega Esports. "We will look into this matter and reach out to all the parties involved."
Valve is a video game developer best known for hosting multimillion-dollar tournaments, most recently the USD 40-million The International 10.
