Sony Alpha 7 IV Full-Frame Camera announced
Sony has unveiled the Sony Alpha 7 IV, the latest member of its Alpha Full-Frame family.
This full-frame camera features the latest BIONZ XR processing engine and advanced AF (autofocus) capabilities. Sony Alpha 7 IV also boasts 33MP image resolution, full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor, 15-stop dynamic range (ISO 50-204,800), and 4K 60p video recording.
The latest processing engine BIONZ XR enables high-speed AF, uninterrupted continuous shooting at 10 frames per second with AF/AE tracking, and a large buffer for a fluid shooting experience. The Alpha 7 IV's Real-Time Tracking and 759 phase-detection AF points comprise a high-density focal plane phase-detection AF system covering approximately 94 percent of the image area.
Additionally, Real-time Eye AF can now track the eyes of birds and animals in both still images and video, in addition to humans. Further, the detection accuracy for the human face and eye detection has been increased by approximately 30% compared to Alpha 7 III.
It also supports 4K 60p video recording (Super 35mm mode) and 4K 30p video recording with 7K oversampling (full-frame mode). Moreover, it features a 10-bit depth 4:2:2 color sampling and supports the XAVC S-I intra-frame and XAVC HS H.265 Long-GOP file formats. The latter enables more efficient editing workflows and compression.
Regarding operability, it highlights a 5-axis optical image stabilizer integrated into the body and a dual-layer mode dial (Still/Movie/S&Q and Auto/P/A/S/M and MR-Memory Recall).
The Sony Alpha 7 IV's hardware specifications include a magnesium alloy camera body, a 3.68 million-dot OLED Quad-VGA viewfinder, a 3-inch side-opening vari-angle touch-panel rear LCD monitor, and a Z-series battery. It also has 5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Sony Alpha 7 IV (camera body only) will sell for USD 2,499 in December 2021. Meanwhile, the kit version will retail for USD 2,699, including the Alpha 7 IV camera body and Sony's FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS zoom lens.
